The monks bred these dogs for rescue work in the treacherous mountain passes, where they would search for and aid travelers lost or injured in the snow.

The St. Bernard is a beloved and iconic breed with a rich history of rescue work and a gentle and friendly temperament. With their noble appearance and affectionate nature, they continue to be cherished companions for individuals and families around the world.
