The Keeshond, also known as the "Keeshonden" (plural), originated in the Netherlands in the 18th century. They were named after the Dutch patriot Cornelis (Kees) de Gyselaer, who was known as "Kees de Gyselaer," and the Dutch word "hond," which means "dog." Keeshonden were originally bred as companions and watchdogs on barges and canal boats, where they were highly valued for their loyalty and ability to alert their owners to intruders.

The Keeshond is a delightful and affectionate breed with a rich history and a loyal following of enthusiasts. With their distinctive appearance, friendly personality, and loyal disposition, they bring joy and companionship to many households around the world.
